LIV RAGNHILD KJELLMAN: ARTIST, NO

Kjellman is educated at the Art School in Rogaland (2002) and Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, Haag, NL (2005). Growing up in Lofoten, she now has her base in Tromsø. Earlier this year she participated in an exhibition of contemporary Norwegian photo in Philadelphia, USA. In 4x4, she examines how the borders between the rational and the irrational, the normal and the abnormal, defines and varies. The audience, together with the other artists, are invited to contribute with their own stories.

HEINE RØSDAL AVDAL: DANCER AND CHOREOGRAPHER, NO/BE

For several years, Røsdal Avdal has been one of the most outstanding Norwegian participants in the international arena of modern performing arts. His latest performance; some notes are (2006), received great acclaim in Norway as well in Belgium. The artist keeps investigating the concept of body, perception and communication. So also in 4x4, where his contribution is a performance installation: drop a line.

AMUND SJØLIE SVEEN: ARTIST AND PERCUSSIONIST, NO

Sveen was born, in Vadsø, Norway, and has a master in solo percussion from Göteborg College of Music. He is working mainly in the field of performance, music theatre and sound art. Both as a soloist and as a member of the collective NING, he explores the physical, theatrical and visual aspects of musical performance. Strange Birds is his contribution to 4x4 Tromsø: An installation consisting of local and global news, speakers and trees (!)

KRISTIN MELLEM: VIOLINIST, PERFORMER AND COMPOSER, NO

The violinist Mellem composes, produces and performs in several projects with Norwegian folk music, yoiks and theatre. With her band Vajas, she has toured worldwide; visiting festivals in USA, Morocco, Europe as well as the Far East. In 4x4 she will perform in different places during the evenings, giving her contribution to the experience.

ELISABETH BRUN: JOURNALIST, NO

Brun has written and directed four TV- and two radio documentaries. Her education includes a Master of Broadcast/International Journalism from City University in London. From her point of view, she will comment 4x4 from the inside. Her main question is what separates art from non-art. Or, to put in another way: When does radio become art?

ALICE DAQUET: COMPOSER AND PERFORMER, FR

Composer, musician, performer - Alice Daquet is a young multitalented artist for whom art has no boarder or limit. She has already released CD's on prestigious labels, performed on art and rock stages, exhibited her artistic work around the world and collaborated with renowned artists. Working mainly on sound; for this project, she intends to create a sound thriller, in which the story is not told but heard.

LAURE BONICEL: CHOREOGRAPHER, FR

Dancing for major choreographers since 1989, Bonicel creates her own company Moleskine in 1993. She has developed a visual performative style related to altered art (transformation, transvestism). For 4x4, her solo performance Green Decoration is coming out of her new research around flora. Bonicel shall develop a body-landscape in constant evolution, in which each body interstice will be taken as a probable fantasy inviting for contemplation and jubilation

ALDA SNOPEK: VIDEO- AND VISUAL ARTIST, BE

Currently, Snopek works as a visual artist; combining video-installation and performance. Alda Snopek finished her education in film and video at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gent in 1995. The year after, she was awarded for Best Belgium short film at the Film festival in Brussels. For 4 x 4, she will explore the relation between the body, urbanscapes and geography, using projections on a transparent screen in order to interact with the image behind. The viewers are, if they like, physically involved in the installation.

TORGEIR HUSEVAAG: VISUAL ARTIST, NO

Husevaag graduated from the National Art Academy, Oslo in 2000, and has won great acclaim for his handmade drawings. Several of Husevaag´s projects are carried through as performances, sometimes with the participation of the audience. For the past two years, Husevaag has participated in exhibitions in Berlin and Scottsdale (USA), as well as finishing two major public commissions. In 4x4 he invites the spectators to a game of poker!

NUNO OLIM: SCENOGRAPHER AND VIDEO ARTIST PT/NO

Originally a scenographer, Olim has developed into a versatile video artist and performer, travelling around the world as a VJ (videojammer). He is now based in Oslo. In his live performances he uses only selfmade material, often minifilms with a clear political message. In 4x4 he presents an installation, in addition to being central in the improvised performance in the evenings.

NUNO REBELO: GUITAR PLAYER, SOUND EXPLORER, IMPROVISER, COMPOSER, PT

Originally an architect, Nuno Rebelo has received great acclaim as an inventive and versatile musician. As a composer he has made music for choreographies, theatre plays, cinema, concerts and art performances. His contribution to 4x4 is a self-portrait, a sound/video installation named With Feet and Head ("Com pés e cabeça" in Portuguese, - "something that makes sense".) Rebelo is a central participant in the improvised performances at the 4x4 evenings.
